Ship Facts
There are many parts to a medieval ship, and there are many ships. But, most ships have the same main things.
First, there are the masts. Most ships have three main masts, the foremast, the mainmast, and the mizzin-mast.
The foremast is the front-most mast, named for it's position.
The main mast is the, well, main mast. Usually the tallest, and it is in the middle of the boat.
The mizzin-mast is the last mast on the deck. It is usually at the back of the boat.
Next, there are the decks. The most common decks on every boat are the foredeck, the maindeck, and the poop deck.
The front most deck, not unlike the mast, is called the foredeck. The main deck, again just like the mast, is called the maindeck. And our last, great convenience is that the back deck and back mast (mizzin-mast) both have very weird names. The back deck is called.. the poop deck. Sadly, or maybe fortunately, the poop deck has nothing to do with poop.. kind of?
Lastly, there is the bowsprit. It is just the pointy thing at the end of the boat, and it shows the driver exactly which direction they are going in.
